Hi

I am the New Zealand national elite keirin champion and it has always been a dream of mine to ride in the japanese keirin circut. For someone like me, What are the options for me to get noticed or invited to attend the keirin school as an international rider?

Thhank you

Shikaku is just another term for "disqualify" for any number of reasons for that particular race and there are many of them that have no effect on your overall career (like riding below the lower line for more than X# of seconds). Other reasons could certainly end your career (like getting caught working with some yakuza fixing a race by taking someone out in order for someone to win lots of $$), but those are quite rare.

Koichi Nakano was one of the first Japanese Keirin riders to compete outside Japan.

I recently learned at the US Hall of Fame induction ceremony from an old time track racer from the 50's-60's that there was an exhibition team of keirin racers who came to the USA to do some racing in 1953. Don't know much more than that but it might be worth exploring in more detail.

As of a couple years ago the Japns. Keirin Assn. made some major changes to their rules for entering the keirin league: non-Japanese are eligible, there's no age restrictions, and there are no more written exams. So, if you're fast enough (I think your 1 km TT time has to be under 1:15 sec to qualify now). I've tried getting an official from the Keirin Assn. to confirm this but so far they haven't responded to my email request; you might want to continue pursuing this before publishing it as fact.
