Job Definition Services
In many situations an organization requires an updated set of Job Descriptions for one or more purposes: reorganization, defining hiring requirements, identifying performance expectations, etc.
ALTA creates Job Descriptions that reflect the current 'best practices' based on current government and industry sources such as the U.S. Department of Labor (www.dol.gov).
ALTA creates job descriptions for both exempt and non-exempt employees. For example, the content of an exempt employee Job Description contains:
- Job Identification
- Job Summary - A brief description of the job
- Job Duties - A detailed description of the job responsibilities
- Expectations - The expectations of performance on the job
- Physical Requirements - The physical requirements necessary to perform the job
- Minimum Qualifications - The minimum qualifications that an individual must meet to be considered for the job
- Acknowledgement by the Employee - An acknowledgement by the employee of the job requirements
- Approval by Management - An approval by management, such as direct supervision and human resources, of the description of the job
ALTA creates the Job Description using the Job Analysis process described below. This process insures uniformity and independence in creating the Job Description and includes internal validation by your organization. The process also allows for creation of Job Descriptions across facilities or across the world with complete multilingual capabilities.
Job Analysis Services
Identifying what is required to perform a job in an organization is important particularly in reorganizations, downsizing, acquisitions and mergers. ALTA provides this Job Analysis capability for you. The analysis can cover each job in its entirety or focus on segments of the job, for example, the language skills or the physical requirements to perform the job.
The elements of completing a Job Analysis are part of a process that includes:
- Identifying current Job information such as organization charts, existing job descriptions, and documentation used and created on the job
- Completing questionnaires by employees and their supervisors that identify what is required to perform the job. Questionnaires are in whatever languages that are required.
- Observation of employees performing their jobs. Interviews with employees in their language to fill in information gaps or resolve differences in viewpoints
The output of a Job Analysis may be a Job Description (see above), recommendations for combining positions, recommendations for organizational changes, or definition of specific capabilities required to perform a job. For example, the minimum Spanish language requirements to perform a receptionist's job would be a typical output focused on specific capabilities.
