Speaking and Listening Assessment

The Spoken Language Evaluation™ process is the protocol that ALTA developed and uses in its testing. This process allows ALTA to test effectively and reliably across a wide range of languages. Results are delivered to you the next business day.

How does it work?

No equipment other than a telephone is required for the testing. At the scheduled time and date, the candidate simply calls the telephone number given at the time of scheduling. The candidate is then directed to his or her evaluator. The evaluator will check for identity, get permission to record, and then proceed with the questions. Each question is designed to focus on a particular linguistic skill, or set of skills, and the test will require the candidate to use the full range of the language. The evaluator will be checking for how well the candidate comprehends the questions, communicates, and uses the mechanics of the language such as grammar and vocabulary. The evaluation lasts approximately 15-20 minutes. At the end of the evaluation, the candidate will be instructed to hang up. The evaluator will score the candidate's performance according to our protocol.

How do I schedule my candidates?

Once your organization is registered, you may schedule tests by telephone or email. Scheduling is done Monday through Friday from 0900 to 1800 ET (9:00 am to 6:00 pm) except holidays. Candidates are not scheduled until you receive a confirmation. All oral tests begin on the hour or half hour. Normally, common languages can be scheduled with a one-day lead time, and a two-day notice is generally required for the less common languages.

What is the cost?

The standard Speaking and Listening assessment is $50 per test.
