Accent Reduction Self Guided Study with Consultant
The Self-Guided Study with Consultant program includes all the services, materials and resources provided with the Self-Guided Study and, in addition, the help of a consultant. The role of the consultant is to help our customers progress through their course materials, mark assignments and provide feedback.
This program includes:
- Initial Assessment.
- Self-Guided Study with Consultant Manual.
- Five months of access to our online resources.
- Four Thirty-Minute Sessions over the phone with an ALTA-Certified Consultant, scheduled at your convenience.
- Follow-up Assessment.
Initial Assessment
The Initial Assessment is designed for the candidate to read aloud several sentences, read a brief passage and provide a short, conversational speech sample requiring the candidate to say the full range of American English sounds and to use appropriate American intonation and standard speech speed. We will record all of the components of the test. Following the recording session, we will analyze the speech to identify the candidate's specific problems. Within two to three business days we will have the initial assessment completed and sent to the client. The assessment will provide the client with a detailed report regarding the existence and, if so, the severity of his/her problems for each of the 88 English-American sounds/phonemes, an evaluation of his/her intonation, his/her speech speed as well as a final score which indicates the percentage of the American English sounds/phonemes the client say correctly when speaking.
Self-Guided Study with Consultant Manual
The Self-Guided Study with Consultant Manual is intended to provide the client with the background needed to complete the program and improve his/her accent studying by himself/herself and with the help of an ALTA certified consultant.
5 Months Access to Online Resources
An important part of changing an accent is to practice after every self-guided session. Included with this program, the client will receive a Username and a Password to access our online resources. The online homework is available for five months.
Four Thirty-Minute Sessions over the phone with an ALTA certified Consultant. All sessions are flexible: our clients have the convenience of scheduling their sessions whenever it is convenient for them between the hours of 8:00AM ET and 8:00PM ET, Monday through Friday. Sessions on the weekends may also be available upon request.
Clients are also allowed to cancel a session already scheduled without penalty, if they you notify our office by 4:00PM ET on the previous business day of the scheduled session. The details of each session are described in the manual Self-Guided Study with Consultant.
Follow-up Assessment
At the end of the program, we will send the client an email with the instructions to complete another assessment. This Follow-up assessment helps the client to see his/her progress and serves as a guide for continuing work.
Training Availability
Upon enrollment, all the materials will be sent to the client, including the Initial Assessment reading test, which can be done at any time by calling ALTA's automated test recording line.
